Error control in the perfectly matched layer based multilevel fast multipole algorithm

چکیده
The development of efficient algorithms to analyze complex electromagnetic structures is of topical interest. Application of these algorithms in commercial solvers requires rigorous error controllability. In this paper we focus on the perfectly matched layer based multilevel fast multipole algorithm (PML-MLFMA), a dedicated technique constructed to efficiently analyze large planar structures. More specifically the crux of the algorithm, viz. the pertinent layered medium Green functions, is under investigation. Therefore, particular attention is paid to the plane wave decomposition for 2-D homogeneous space Green functions in very lossy media, as needed in the PML-MLFMA. The result of the investigations is twofold. First, upper bounds expressing the required number of samples in the plane wave decomposition as a function of a preset accuracy are rigorously derived. These formulas can be used in 2-D homogeneous (lossy) media MLFMAs. Second, a more heuristic approach to control the error of the PML-MLFMA’s Green functions is presented. The theory is verified by means of several numerical experiments. 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A Multilevel Fast Multipole Based Approach for Eecient Reconstruction of Perfectly Conducting Scatterers
A nonlinear reconstruction scheme based on the Distorted Born Iterative Method (DBIM) is presented to solve two-dimensional inverse scattering problems with metallic scatterers. Half-quadratic regularization alleviates the inherently ill-posed problem of nonlinear inverse scattering while simultaneously preserving edges. Reconstruction results are found by minimizing a cost function. A bistatic...

One way to implement a low-frequency or broadband fast multipole method is to use the spectral representation, or inhomogeneous plane-wave expansion, of the Green’s function. To significantly improve the error-controllability of the method, we propose a new interpolation and anterpolation scheme for the evanescent part. متن کاملMultilevel fast-multipole algorithm for scattering from conducting targets above or embedded in a lossy half space
An extension of the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA), originally developed for targets in free space, is presented for the electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional (3-D), electrically large, perfectly conducting targets above or embedded within a lossy half space. We have developed and implemented electric-field, magnetic-field, and combined-field integral...
